Our Remembering the Fallen event brings our community together each year to honor the first responders who gave everything in service to others, as well as those we have lost to the unseen battles that can follow a life of service. Inspired by Día de los Muertos, the event creates a powerful space for remembrance, connection, and celebration of the lives behind the uniform.

This year, we are honored to remember Stockton Fire Captain Vidal “Max” Fortuna, a 21-year veteran who was shot and killed in the line of duty on January 31, 2022, while his crew was fighting a fire. Max was a husband, father, mentor, and dedicated firefighter who spent countless hours training the next generation of first responders. Funds raised through this year's event will help complete and furnish a memorial cabin at Runestone Ranch in Max's honor. His name will become a permanent part of a place built for the very people he spent his career serving alongside.
